Trulia and Zillow have published their what's hot and what's not of 2018. For this post let's take a look at what is "so" not!

Trulia's List:

1. Exposed Lighting

Say goodbye to Edison bulbs and exposed track lighting.

2. Granite Counter-tops

Designers and home owners are moving away from granite for other materials like marble and quartz.

The beauty of marble and quartize and the sleek, low maintenance ease of quartz has pushed this shift away from the natural stone.

3. Bamboo Flooring

Bamboo has a low durability and is no longer considered the environmentally friendly option it once was.

4. Open Shelving

Made extremely popular by Chip and Johanna Gaines and their farmhouse style, open shelving is very pretty when styled but lacks functionality in the day to day.

5. Bohemian Tapestry

Every blogger and Pinterest had at least 5 photos of some form of a bohemian tapestry a few years ago along with gold foil flash tattoos. This was certainly a trendy trend but needs to stay where it belongs... in college dorm rooms.

6. DIY Storage

While some DIY projects are great for children's crafts a lot of these storage solutions and re-purposing toilet paper rolls are a bit much.

7. Reclaimed Wood

Sometimes there is too much of a good thing. Reclaimed wood is great for the environment but let's leave it for a few select pieces or flooring.

Zillow's list includes

1. All White Kitchens

People are ditching the hard to keep clean look of all white and brightening up their kitchens with pops of color for 2018.

2. Bar Carts

While perfectly styled bar carts are pretty, unless you are a frequent entertainer these probably sit in the corner collecting dust. Trade out your alcohol for coffee, lattes, cappuccino and the like.

3. Succulents

Pretty but overdone. Add some other greenery into your world like a fiddle leaf or palms...
