Did you know there are multiple layers of lighting? They include ambient, task, accent and decorative.

1. Ambient - The most basic of the types of lighting - considered the bottom layer. This lighting provides overall illumination and brightness to a room. This can be achieved with chandeliers, ceiling or wall-mounts, track or recessed lights, and table and floor lamps.

2. Task - Lighting that adds brightness to areas where one would do daily activities - considered the second layer. It is meant to enhance clarity and diminish eye strain with little glare. This can be achieved with recessed and track lighting, pendant lighting, desk lamps, etc.

3. Accent - Light meant to highlight certain objects or architectural features such as paintings, sculptures, under-cabinet lighting, etc - the third layer. This can be achieved with recessed lighting, chandeliers with dimmers, wall sconces and other specialty lighting.

4. Decorative - Lighting meant to serve as a decorative purpose but can also provide accent and task lighting. Decorative lighting can include scones, mini pendants, chandeliers, table lights and floor lights.
